Mit Catalyst hat man ein mächtiges Webframework zur Hand das auf Perl basiert. Es gibt inzwischen viele Module und Plugins die einem mehr und mehr Funktionalität und Möglichkeiten bieten. Eine riesiege Auswahl an Modulen die sich mit CPAN direkt und unkompliziert installieren lassen. Die Anzahl realisierbaren Kombinationen ist so gross, dass einem die Wahl nicht immer leicht fällt. Zu wissen welche Module auf jeden Fall funktionieren um schnell im Entwicklungsprozess vorwärts zu kommen ist essentiell. Die meisten Voträge die bisher über Catalyst gehalten wurden haben die Möglichkeiten alle aufgezeigt und Lust auf mehr gemacht, aber womit fängt man an und was für eine Konstellation funktioniert? An genau dieser Stelle setzt dieser Vortag an. Er soll anhand eines System im praktischen Einsatz ein Beispiel für eine funktionierende Lösung zeigen. Das sind grundlegend wichtige, technische Entscheidungen die man als Entwickler treffen muss oder schon getroffen haben sollte um für den Einsatz gewappnet zu sein. Es wird anhand einer Community Webanwendung eine Umsetzung gezeigt die sich bereits in produktiver Umgebung befindet. Da das ganze System auf Perl basiert ist es so portabel wie Perl selbst und seine Module und ist genauso auch auf Platformen lauffähig die ungleich der gezeigten sind.

With Catalyst you get an powerful webframework based on perl. In the meantime a lot of modules and plugins are available providing more and more functionality and possibilities. A huge selection of modules to use via CPAN directely and without complications. The count of implementable combinations is immense so deciding what to use isn't always that easy. You need to know which module comes to help in which case to gain an acceptable speed in development. Most previous hold talks were about Catalyst and the flexibility and made apettite but how to apply that? That's where my talk comes into play. I want to show an system thats running in production how an actual solution works out. The developers need to know all those basic but essential stuff to make fast and safe decisions in the process. A pratical example with the help of a web based community system running already for real users. As the whole thing is based on Perl and should be portable as Perl itself with all required modules it should also work on other platforms than the one currently used.
